Reviews: What Do the Critics Think of Other Desert Cities on Broadway?

A new revival of Jon Robin Baitz's Tony-winning Other Desert Cities opens at the Hudson Theatre October 18, after beginning previews September 29. With a starry cast boasting Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Ed Harris, Allison Janney, Joe Keery, and Lily Rabe, the production has already been one of Broadway's top grossers, making The $2 Million Club in its first full week of previews. John Benjamin Hickey is at the helm, with the limited engagement to continue through January 17, 2027.

11-time Emmy winner Louis-Dreyfus makes her Broadway debut as Polly Wyeth, opposite Harris as Lyman Wyeth, Oscar winner Janney as Silda Grauman, Keery (Stranger Things) as Trip Wyeth, and Rabe as Brooke Wyeth. Understudies Japhet Balaban, Tony Carlin, Amanda Drinkall, and Kathryn Meisle round out the company. Casting is by Jim Carnahan.

The play—which premiered Off-Broadway via Lincoln Center Theater in 2011 before transferring to Broadway the same year—centers on a writer in a family with opposing political views who is threatening to publish a tell-all memoir exposing a long-held family secret. The work was a finalist for the 2012 Pulitzer Prizer for Drama.
