On the run for 11 days, model-influencer Shraddha Dubey, 30, wanted in connection with the death of Lucknow cafe owner Shiva Sharma, was arrested from a Nagpur flat on Tuesday along with her sister Rashmi Dubey and driver Tanveer Ali alias Danish, police said.

A joint team of the Lucknow Police and the Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force (STF), with assistance from Nagpur Police, arrested the three. They will be brought to Lucknow on a transit remand.

Shiva, 27, died on the night of October 9 after falling from the fourth floor of Shraddha’s rented flat at Awadh Green Apartment in Lucknow’s Hazratganj area. Shraddha, his alleged live-in partner, had been on the run since then.

Amid the investigation, Hazratganj station house officer Vikram Singh was attached to the Police Lines, Assistant Commissioner of Police Rajneesh Verma was moved to the Crime Branch, and Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central) Vikrant Vir was attached to the Uttar Pradesh Police headquarters in Lucknow.

A senior police officer said the three accused left for Nepal immediately after Shiva’s death and stayed there for seven days. Police claimed to have found footage of them crossing the border. They frequently changed locations, making it difficult for police to trace them.

Three days earlier, police traced the trio to Agra. However, by the time a police team reached the location, they had left for Nagpur by car.

Police used their call detail records and other resources to trace the flat where they were staying in Nagpur. A raid led to the arrest of all three. The flat belonged to an acquaintance of the accused, police said.

A local police officer said Shraddha was hiding inside the flat located on Wardha Road in Nagpur city when she was traced and nabbed around 3.30 pm. Nagpur Crime Branch DCP Deepak Agrawal confirmed her arrest.

Police said the trio frequently changed their mode of transport and moved between locations without staying anywhere for long. Shraddha also often wore a burqa while travelling to conceal her identity.

“During questioning, we will connect the dots of their time on the run. Preparations are under way to bring them to Lucknow,” the officer said.

While on the run, at least three videos of Shraddha surfaced on social media, in which she had claimed she was innocent.

In the latest video circulated on Sunday evening, she claimed she had seen Shiva jump from the building. She alleged that police had obtained CCTV footage showing her near the Nepal border but had not retrieved footage from her apartment building.

In the same video, Shraddha claimed she had known Shiva for about four months and that he had started visiting her home around two months ago. She also claimed Shiva had debts of Rs 16-17 lakh and had sought financial help from her.

She also alleged that he had taken jewellery worth Rs 5-6 lakh from her home about a month before his death. Describing the matter as personal, she claimed he had acknowledged taking the jewellery and promised to return it.

Ranjana, who runs a chikan garments business in Aliganj, said she had met Shraddha only twice and exchanged just a few words with her. She denied that her son was in debt and asked why, if Shraddha had caught him stealing, she never filed a case against him.

The family also claimed that high-profile personalities were behind tge accused. “It was surprising that a wanted accused met media persons and released videos, yet the police couldn’t arrest her,” Ranjana alleged.

On Sunday, a Lucknow Police team visited Shradda’s parental home in Rae Bareli’s Rajajipuram area and recorded her father’s statement again.

Her father, Shiv Prasad Dubey, is a retired government employee. “The police team stayed inside the house for about an hour and then left. Shraddha and her two siblings are children of Shiv Prasad’s first wife. Apart from Shiv Prasad and his second wife, no one else is at the house. The tenants have also locked up their portion and left, fearing police action,” said a neighbour whose house is adjacent to Shiv Prasad’s.
