Video Game News 31st Aug 2026 / 1:11 pm Posted by Chris ScullionTake-Two has said its investigation into identifying the person or people who leaked Grand Theft Auto 6 footage is “rapidly evolving”.

Earlier this month, a group known as ‘Cyberleek’ started posting what appeared to be authentic gameplay clips from Grand Theft Auto 6, days before its official Netflix reveal.

Re-uploads of the leak across social media channels racked up millions of views, and Take-Two said it was issuing subpoenas petitioning Microsoft and Discord for information that could point them to the leaker. It then followed this with subsequent subpoena requests for X and YouTube.

At the time, Discord marketing director Ryan Rigney said that it had yet to be served with the subpoena, but that it would “evaluate the validity and scope before responding” when it did arrive.

Now, as reported by TorrentFreak, Take-Two has posted a new court filing requesting a second subpoena to be sent to Discord, but this time with its details kept private.

The previous subpoena request specifically named Discord servers and users that Take-Two wanted more information on. In its latest filing, it asks for its new request – which is focused on one previously identified Discord user and one additional user – to be filed under seal, which means the details aren’t publicly available.

According to Take-Two, this is necessary because if the details were known to the public, the leaker would be made aware of this and may make efforts to delete incriminating evidence.

“Public disclosure of this information could compromise Take-Two’s ongoing investigation and even tip off the alleged infringers as to the nature and progress of Take-Two’s investigation and information Take-Two has gathered about the infringement,” it explained, “creating a substantial risk that the infringers will delete, destroy, or otherwise conceal evidence of their infringing activities, and/or take further steps to evade identification.”

In a separate filing, Take-Two withdrew its previous subpoena request for information from YouTube, which was investigating three personas seemingly tied to a leaked video.

The company explained that its investigation had been “evolving rapidly”, and that it was no longer focusing on the YouTube video and therefore no longer needed the subpoena.

“Take-Two’s investigation into the individual(s) responsible for posting infringing content on YouTube, and elsewhere online, has been (and is) evolving rapidly as new information becomes available,” Take-Two’s legal representative wrote.

“Take-Two has been working to provide the Court with the additional information requested, but as this very dynamic situation has progressed, Take-Two has determined it no longer needs the particular information requested. Thus, Take-Two respectfully withdraws its subpoena request.”
