Minister for Social Welfare K. Jegadeshwari on Tuesday participated at a vidyarambam (admission of children at anganwadi) ceremony on Vijayadhasami, at Uvari in Thisaiyanvilai taluk in the district.
The Minister received the children with crowns and sweets, and seated on her lap, they wrote the first two letters of Tamil in the turmeric-soaked rice to mark the start of their academic journey.
Ms. Jegadeshwari gifted uniforms, colour pencils and toys to the children, who were mostly from disadvantaged families.
She appealed to parents to give nutritious and balanced diet to the children to facilitate their physical and cognitive development to improve their concentration on learning. “Since the educators at the anganwadi will follow play-way method in the initial days for gradually attracting children towards formal learning, parents should help in breaking the ice as the playful children may show reluctance to come to the anganwadi.”
Sub-Collector, Cheranmahadevi, Ayush Gupta and Radhapuram MLA S.K. Christopher were present.
Similar functions were organised at anganwadis and private schools in Tirunelveli, Tenkasi, Thoothukudi and Kanniyakumari districts, where children were received with traditional music.
