Logan house party murder charges: Four more teens charged after death of Jongkuch Achiew

ShareAAAFour more teenagers have been charged with murder over the alleged bashing death of a 21-year-old man at an out-of-control house party south of Brisbane.

Redbank Plains man Jongkuch Achiew died at Princess Alexandra Hospital after succumbing to head injuries he suffered at the gathering at Bahrs Scrub, a suburb in Logan, in the early hours of Sunday, July 26.

Jongkuch Achiew, 21, died in hospital less than a week after he was found with significant head injuries on a suburban Logan street.NineFour male teenagers, all aged 18 or 19 years old, were arrested and charged on August 6 following investigations by homicide detectives.

On Sunday evening, four more teenagers were arrested and charged with murder after being found in Morayfield. One of the arrested teens is 17 years old, and the others are 18. They are from Acacia Ridge, Sunnybank, Doolandella and Inala.

All were due to appear in Richlands Magistrates Court and Brisbane Magistrates Court on Monday.

A message attributed to Achiew’s family, and posted to a social media group representing members of the Biong community from South Sudan, thanked police and other first responders for their efforts.

“This is a life cut far too short, and a loss felt profoundly by all who knew and loved him,” it said.

Police had been called to the party at a house on Discovery Boulevard in Bahrs Scrub just after 2am following reports of a large disturbance.

They found significant damage at a house and vehicles along the street.

People allegedly fled the scene as soon as officers arrived, and Achiew was found with significant head injuries on a nearby street.

He was rushed to Princess Alexandra Hospital in a critical condition but died after his life support was switched off less than a week later.

A 22-year-old Heathwood man has also been charged with one count of contravening an order about information necessary to access information stored electronically.
