Punjab civic body poll results LIVE: In Jalandhar district, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) emerged as the largest party, winning 49 wards, with the Congress trailing with 21 leads and Independents securing 22 seats. The BJP managed to win three wards, whereas the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) and Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) won two seats each.
Congress wins the Kapurthala municipal corporation elections, securing 31 seats, while AAP records victories in 11 seats. Three seats each won by SAD and BJP, and two by Independent candidates.
In four municipalities of Sangrur – Sunam, Dhuri, Bhawanigarh, and Longowal, AAP holds a lead, winning 55 of 74 seats, more than double the combined total of all others, followed by independent candidates with 9 seats from Dhuri, Longowal, and Sunam.
The Congress party ranks third with 7 seats, all of which were won in Bhawanigarh, where it secured a direct tie with AAP.
Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) captured 2 seats overall (one each in Longowal and Bhawanigarh), while the BJP secured a single seat in Sunam.
There is a close contest between SAD and AAP in Majitha, the home turf of SAD leader Bikram Singh Majithia. After 1.00 pm, the results of the Municipal Council polls have not been declared yet.
Reacting to the delayed result, Majithia has raised questions over the counting process. He alleged that the state government is leaving no stone unturned to ensure the AAP candidate's victory in the counting. He said recounting is being carried out repeatedly for the ward where the margin of votes is not big.
Of the total 13 seats, the SAD contested elections in 10. All eyes are on this civic body poll, which is a high-stakes battle for Majithia. He is being given a fight by his former close associate, Talbir Singh Gill, who is the ruling party's Halqa in-charge for Majitha.

Days before this, the Congress, along with the Bharatiya Janata Party and Shiromani Akali Dal, staged a dharna on May 18, which saw former Dhuri MLA Dalvir Singh Goldy from the Indian National Congress (INC), Onkar Singh (former OSD to Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann), and leaders of the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) and under one front outside the market committee office in Dhuri over alleged bias and intimidation in the municipal council process.
The son of a Congress candidate, Sadhu Ram, who was contesting from ward number 17 in Dhuri, was arrested for allegedly submitting forged documents to secure bail for certain individuals on May 24.

Counting in Ward No. 6 of Mohali has been halted, PTC News reported. Independent candidate Manjit Singh Sethi has approached the Punjab and Haryana high court.
Counting in Ward No. 6 will resume only after the observer arrives, the report added.
The first round of counting for 15 wards in Pathankot has been completed.
In this round, the Aam Aadmi Party is leading in 9 wards, followed by the Congress in second place, and the Bharatiya Janata Party in third.
