KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 1 (Bernama) -- The Public Service Department (PSD) has been urged to review the assessment weighting under the Demerit Performance Evaluation (DEEP) for secretaries-general (KSU) of ministries.
Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar said the move is intended to ensure the performance assessment system for senior civil servants remained comprehensive, relevant and responsive to the changing challenges of public administration.
"Moving forward, I have asked the PSD to review the DEEP weighting for KSU to ensure it covers not only development projects, but also a combination of high-impact and people-centred initiatives.
"Digitalisation should also be included in performance indicators, including how far ministries have progressed towards paperless operations. We want performance measures that truly reflect the changes being implemented and the results experienced by the public," he said in a post on X today.
Shamsul Azri said the performance assessment of senior civil service leaders must focus on actual results and their impact.
He said this after reviewing KSU's performance and a DEEP pilot programme involving 30 service and department heads, during the presentation of the DEEP Second Quarter 2026 Assessment Report this afternoon.
DEEP provides a comprehensive framework for assessing the performance and leadership capabilities of senior officials in ministries and government agencies.
