UP man trapped in live wires after tree falls, shopkeeper rushes to save him

The elderly man happened to be walking through the area when the tree came down. He managed to avoid the falling branch, but moments later came into contact with the live wires and suffered electric shocks.

His condition left people nearby alarmed. However, with the wires lying across the road and the risk of electrocution, no one could safely rush towards him.

That was when Pankaj Agarwal, who runs a shop nearby, decided to intervene.

Agarwal first used a chair to try to separate the man from the wire. When that did not work, he picked up a stick and tried to move him away from the live cable. Other people eventually joined the effort.

After several attempts, they managed to free the elderly man from the wires and move him to safety. He was then taken for medical treatment as his condition was serious.

The dramatic rescue was captured by a nearby CCTV camera. The footage showed the tree collapsing, the wires falling onto the road and the frantic rescue that followed.

The incident has since raised concerns among residents about the condition of old trees in the area, particularly those growing close to electricity lines. Locals have urged authorities to inspect such trees and remove or trim those that pose a danger.- EndsPublished By: Srimoyee ChowdhuryPublished On: Sep 1, 2026 16:51 IST
