UK man picks up plastic waste in Uttarakhand forests, leaves internet inspired

The video, now circulating widely on social media, showed the man, identified as Mark, a tourist from England, collecting litter strewn across the forest paths and areas surrounding the Kasar Devi temple in Almora district.

Carrying bags, he was seen picking up discarded plastic and garbage left behind in the scenic hill region.

According to locals, Mark had been visiting the area for several years and has turned cleanliness into a personal routine. Residents said he spent nearly two to three hours every day cleaning nearby forest stretches and footpaths, helping preserve the natural beauty of the region.

His efforts received a whole lot of attention online, with many saying the gesture taught people that enjoying mountains and natural landscapes should also come with a sense of responsibility toward protecting them.

Speaking to Aaj Tak, District Magistrate Anshul Singh praised Mark’s initiative and called his contribution commendable.

Singh said the administration not only appreciates Mark’s work but also plans to extend all possible support to him. He added that the tourist has set a positive example in the areas of cleanliness and environmental awareness.

The District Magistrate further said that the administration intends to promote Mark as a “change agent” so he can inspire students and young people toward cleanliness, environmental conservation, and social responsibility.- EndsPublished By: Yashna TalwarPublished On: May 29, 2026 19:28 IST
