In an interview on Himalayan flood risks and disaster preparedness, mountain geographer Alton Byers discussed the escalating threat of catastrophic events in fragile mountain watersheds. Byers highlighted the rapid urbanization of flood plains over recent decades across Nepal, India, and neighbouring regions, which has significantly increased community vulnerability. Addressing technological solutions and early warning systems, he noted, "I think we're always going to be at the mercy of the mountains," while emphasising the urgent need to modernise disaster prediction. He pointed out that warning systems designed for gradual glacier movement cannot effectively capture sudden surges like the Bhote Koshi flood. Byers advocated for higher-altitude laser monitoring of water levels, combined siren- and mobile-based alerts, and clear uphill evacuation planning. Examining the disaster response model from Blatten, Switzerland, he concluded that while Himalayan geology presents distinct challenges, adapted international models show promise for regional cross-border disaster mitigation.

A minor was allegedly gang-raped inside a private sleeper bus in Delhi-NCR after boarding at Pari Chowk in Greater Noida on August 4. The driver and conductor allegedly assaulted her during the journey, threatened her life, and dropped her near Kashmiri Gate on Ring Road. Following a complaint at Kashmiri Gate police station, CCTV footage assisted police in tracing the bus, leading to the arrest of both accused. The incident has raised questions regarding ground-level enforcement of post-Nirbhaya transport safety protocols, as curtains obstructing interior visibility were still in place in violation of mandated norms.

The draft voter rolls published after the special intensive revision have led to large-scale deletions across Delhi, Maharashtra, and Telangana. In Delhi, 47.57 lakh names were dropped from the electoral rolls after being categorised under absent, shifted, deceased, or duplicate entries. In Maharashtra, around 2.07 crore voters have been classified as uncollectible. Meanwhile, Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has written to Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar seeking an extension to file claims, as 73.39 lakh voters were placed under absent, shifted, dead, and duplicate categories. Electors excluded from the draft rolls can submit claims and objections until September 30, with final lists scheduled for publication on November 4.
