FIFA to present NBA-styled championship rings to winners of World Cup
One side of the ring will feature the FIFA World Cup trophy, while the other will be customised to reflect the identity of the winning nation. Every ring will be individually numbered, custom-fitted and accompanied by a certificate of authenticity.
Immediately after the final, the winning captain and head coach will receive temporary championship rings during the celebrations. FIFA will later produce custom-fitted versions for all 30 recipients before presenting them officially, ensuring each winner receives a personalised keepsake of their triumph.
The introduction of championship rings marks the first time FIFA has adopted a tradition long associated with major North American sports such as the NBA, NFL and MLB, where title-winning teams are awarded commemorative rings in addition to trophies.
The FIFA World Cup final will be played on Sunday, July 19, at the New York New Jersey Stadium, where defending champions Argentina will face Spain for the title. Argentina are bidding to retain the World Cup and become only the third nation in the tournament's history to successfully defend the trophy.
