Vaibhav Sooryavanshi's IPL records: RR's 15-year-old boss baby rewrites history books in GT vs RR Qualifier 2
As Mullanpur saw a slow start from the youngster, turning into yet another fiery 96 off a 47-ball knock in the Qualifier 2 clash against GT, the innings also saw Sooryavanshi become the fastest batter to 1,000 IPL runs in terms of balls faced. He also became the first player in T20 history to score 500 runs in powerplays alone during a single tournament.
The latest feat came just two days after his breathtaking 97 off 29 balls against Sunrisers Hyderabad in the Eliminator.
Among the records and milestones achieved during the innings were:440 – Fastest batter to 1,000 IPL runs by balls faced, overtaking Andre Russell's previous record of 545 deliveries.23 – Second-fewest innings taken to reach 1,000 IPL runs, behind only Shaun Marsh's 21 innings.3 – Dismissals in the 90s in IPL career, now level with KL Rahul, David Warner, Ruturaj Gaikwad and Glenn Maxwell for the most in tournament history.31 – Balls taken to reach his fifty, the slowest half-century of Sooryavanshi's IPL career.47 – Most deliveries faced by Sooryavanshi in an IPL innings, surpassing the 38 balls he faced during his 93 in Jaipur earlier this month.18 – The deepest he has batted in an IPL innings, surviving until the 18th over for the first time.500 – Became the first batter in T20 history to score 500 powerplay runs in a single tournament.776 – Runs scored in IPL 2026, taking his tally past 750 in what is becoming one of the greatest individual seasons in tournament history.
Unlike many of his previous innings, Sooryavanshi was forced to work hard for his runs against Mohammed Siraj and Kagiso Rabada. The Gujarat pacers repeatedly hit disciplined lengths and prevented the teenager from freeing his arms in the opening overs.
His first six did not arrive until the 13th ball he faced, an unusually cautious start by his standards. Gujarat's strategy looked even better when Rajasthan Royals lost Yashasvi Jaiswal for 1 and Dhruv Jurel for 7 inside the powerplay.

Once Ravindra Jadeja settled at the other end, Sooryavanshi launched a familiar assault. He smashed 46 runs from his next 15 deliveries, raced into the nineties and looked set for a third IPL hundred.
However, the teenager suffered another near miss, falling in the 90s for the third time in his last four innings. Despite that disappointment, the innings once again underlined why he has become the biggest story of IPL 2026.
At the time of writing, Sooryavanshi's focus had already shifted to the field. Rajasthan Royals were preparing to defend 215 against Gujarat Titans, with the 15-year-old hoping his latest record-breaking effort would be enough to carry his side into the final against Royal Challengers Bengaluru.
