Residents who enjoyed cooler weather on May 28 can expect more rain, gusty winds, and possible lightning as weather systems active over Rajasthan and Haryana move eastward.

On Thursday, May 28, sudden rain, thunderstorms, and even hail lashed several parts of Delhi-NCR, including Gurugram and Noida. Strong winds up to 70 kmph cooled down the temperatures and eased the intense heatwave that had gripped the region.

Many people welcomed the change, with wet streets and lighter skies bringing a welcome break from the usual May heat.

The orange alert specifically warns of thunderstorms, lightning, hailstorms, and winds gusting up to 80 kmph with light to moderate rain. The alert covers all Delhi districts, including East Delhi, New Delhi, Shahdara, South Delhi, South East Delhi, South West Delhi, and West Delhi.RAIN ALL AROUND

Nearby districts in Haryana such as Bhiwani, Charkhi Dadri, Jhajjar, Rewari, Palwal, Nuh, and Mahendargarh may also see light to moderate rain with gusty winds in the next couple of hours.

Parts of Rajasthan, including Pilani, Jhunjhunu, Alwar, and Kotputli, could experience thunderstorms with moderate to heavy rain and hail in some spots.

Light showers are also likely in areas like Nandgaon and Barsana in Uttar Pradesh. Commuters wade through a waterlogged road in Delhi. (Photo: PTI)

The rainy evening ironically comes on the day when the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) retained its monsoon forecast, saying that India will likely receive below-average rains this monsoon season.

Coming back to Friday, the incoming rain is arriving as part of ongoing weather changes this month, which have brought more rainfall than usual to north India.

Meteorologists are closely watching the situation, with updates suggesting the activity could expand quickly. For those in Delhi-NCR, it’s another chance to savour another summer's day resembling the peak monsoon season.- EndsPublished By: Aryan Published On: May 29, 2026 17:03 IST
