Speaking about the crisis, she told the Bombay Times, “I am trying to connect with someone who can ensure that my donation reaches the right people. I would like to donate as much as I can because they are very close to me and Nepal is my matrabhoomi,” she said.

Adding, “It is heartbreaking to see such devastating floods hit Nepal. I wasn’t born there, but my mother and grandmother are from Kathmandu. I visit Nepal every year with my daughter for New Year. On January 1, we make it a point to visit the Pashupatinath temple and begin the year with His blessings.”

Ssunita also appealed to others from the film industry to step forward and support relief efforts in Nepal. “I request everyone in the industry to come forward and contribute towards helping the people of Nepal,” she added.

Meanwhile, the death toll in Nepal’s floods rose to 1,003, with nearly 4,000 people still missing. More than 21,300 security personnel are conducting rescue operations, while helicopters evacuate survivors and deliver supplies to cut-off communities.

Rescuers recovered 21 bodies from one room and three from outside a three-storey house buried by the flood in Betrawati village of Nuwakot.
