Fact Check: Viral blaze is from South Korea, NOT Iran's attacks on Gulf countries
Riddhish DuttaKolkata,UPDATED: Jul 16, 2026 21:22 IST .ai_assist_bar2 { top:30px } After a brief ceasefire, tensions have once again escalated in West Asia, with Iran launching attacks on US military infrastructure in the Gulf in response to American strikes on Iranian targets.
Amid the rising tension, a video has gone viral on social media, allegedly showing the damage caused by Iranian attacks in the Gulf region. The clip shows a massive fire engulfing an industrial facility, with towers of smoke rising into the sky.
The video has been shared with captions like, "Iran claims major strike on US Gulf bases. Says Patriot Systems and radar were destroyed." The Times of India also shared the clip with a similar claim on July 13.
India Today Fact Check found that the video is from South Korea and dates back to November 2025.
Upon reverse-searching key frames from the viral clip, this video was found on the Facebook page of CNA, a Singapore-based news outlet, shared on November 17, 2025. Per the caption, the video showed a massive fire at one of South Korea's largest fashion logistics centres in Cheonan on November 15, 2025.A subsequent keyword search led us to multiple South Korean news reports from that month. According to these reports, a fire broke out at the E-Land Fashion logistics centre in Cheonan early on the morning of November 15. No casualties were reported, as the facility was unstaffed over the weekend when the blaze started.
The reports noted that more than 400 firefighters, 150 pieces of equipment, and 11 helicopters were deployed to tackle the fire. It took over nine hours to bring the blaze under control, and roughly 60 hours to fully extinguish it. The exact cause of the fire was under investigation.
Therefore, it is more than evident that this video does not show an Iranian attack in the Gulf region.- EndsPublished By: Akshat TrivediPublished On: Jul 16, 2026 21:22 IST
