Many of them have alleged that the police assaulted them while they were in custody.
India Today Fact Check found that the video is from 2017 and actually shows army personnel thrashing a student of Pulwama Degree College in Kashmir. This video has nothing to do with the protests in Delhi.
Reverse-searching frames from the video led us to the account of journalist Shahid Tantray, who shared a longer version of this video on April 15, 2017. This video showed that the same army personnel were joined by two more in thrashing the man. Tantray claimed in the post that the man was beaten up by the Indian Army in South Kashmir.
The newspaper also reported on two more videos, including one which showed a youth tied to an army jeep as a human shield against stone pelting and another in which three youths were forced to shout anti-Pakistan slogans in an army vehicle. It said the videos drew condemnation in Kashmir. Defence spokesman Colonel Rajesh Kalia said at the time that the veracity of these videos was being ascertained, adding that “Action will be taken against those found guilty of misconduct.”
We also found the video’s screenshot in a report published by the Deccan Herald on April 15, 2017. It also said that the person beaten up by the four army personnel was a student of the Pulwama Degree College.
Thus, we concluded that the video is old and does not show a protester beaten up by the Indian Army in Delhi.- Ends
