The text in the video read, “Delhi protest. 10 October.” An X user shared the video with hashtags like “Delhi”, “protest” and “10thOctober”.
India Today Fact Check found that the video is from the Philippines.OUR PROBE
Reverse-searching frames from the video led us to a Facebook account that shared a higher-quality version of it on October 6. This account also claimed that the video was from Delhi. However, in this video, we noticed a banner on a footbridge reading “Diyandi Festival sa Iligan,” as well as a shop named “Shann Gadget.”
The Diyandi Festival is a month-long festival celebrated annually in September in Iligan City, Philippines. It culminates on September 29 in honour of the city’s patron saint, St. Michael the Archangel.
We searched for the shop “Shann Gadget” on Google Maps in Iligan City. On Street View, we found that the shop is located opposite Gaisano Citi Super Mall on Roxas Avenue in Iligan City. We also identified several similarities between the video and Street View. This confirmed that the video is from the Philippines. We found several celebratory videos from the same location posted in September by Facebook accounts based in Iligan City. A video posted on September 29 featured the same footbridge banner reading “Diyandi Festival sa Iligan”. Another video posted on September 29 featured a fire truck parked at the same location as in the viral video.
So, while we couldn't pinpoint exactly when this video was shot, it is clear that it has nothing to do with protests in Delhi.- Ends
