The video allegedly shows the body of a woman who was raped and murdered by Bharatiya Janata Party supporters in West Bengal.
Sharing the video, one person wrote: "According to reports, a little girl was brut@lly r@ped and murdered by BJP Goons in West Bengal."
India Today Fact Check found that the video is not from West Bengal but from Bangladesh, where a 28-year-old woman was raped and murdered, along with her son.
A reverse search of the video’s frames led us to a Bangladeshi Facebook page, Bhola TV, featuring the same clip, dated August 21. According to the caption, the video is from the Shibchar area of Madaripur, in the Dhaka division of Bangladesh.
We then found several news reports from Bangladeshi outlets like Jugantor, Prothom Alo, and Bangladesh Pratidin. According to these reports, the incident took place in Shibchar upazila of Madaripur district, where a 28-year-old woman, Shampa Khatun, was allegedly raped and murdered. Her one-year-old son, Abir, was allegedly thrown into the Arial Khan River.
Shampa's body was recovered in the Bakherkandi area of Madborchar Union, Shibchar, on August 19. According to police, she had been married to Md Shahabuddin Hawlader for around three years, and the couple had one child, Abir. Her husband was reportedly in jail in connection with a case when Shampa came closer to Faruk Molla, a resident of Bakherkandi.
According to police, Faruk allegedly called Shampa to his house, where she was subsequently raped and killed. Her body was then allegedly dumped in nearby bushes. Police arrested Faruk in connection with the case and recovered items reportedly belonging to Shampa, including a gold nose pin and a silver necklace.
